NGER Scheme – measurement uncertainty

National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (NGER) Scheme – Measurement

The NGER Scheme provides a single national framework for reporting corporate information on:

  • Greenhouse gas emissions
  • Energy production
  • Energy consumption

Key legislation and guidance includes:

Why it matters

The Measurement Determination sets out the methods and criteria for calculating greenhouse gas emissions and energy data under the Act.

The quality of underlying data directly affects the accuracy of reported emissions. Reliable data gives confidence that reported figures truly reflect a site’s activities, reducing regulatory risk and the uncertainty in calculated Scope 1 emissions (direct emissions from owned or controlled sources).

What it is

Four measurement criteria apply when estimating Scope 1 emissions:

  • A – Verified by invoices
  • AA – Invoices and stock adjustments
  • AAA – Measured at point of sale, consumption or production using calibrated equipment
  • BBB – Estimated in accordance with industry practice

The appropriate criterion depends on the precision and traceability of available data.

How can Northstar help you?

Northstar will help turn your raw activity data into defensible emissions information.

We will review and categorise data and data-collection processes to ensure the right measurement criteria are applied, improving accuracy, audit readiness and confidence in every NGER submission.
